Unveiling a Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous engaging indie games. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a hero that is truly a dung attempting to make its way to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: just use a one button to leap. In numerous challenges, battle mini-bosses and unlock a market to acquire outfits for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps with caution, as a wrong move means beginning again. Leap on air pockets to launch yourself higher, traverse fragile ledges, and activate triggers to open new areas. Collect currency and use them on tougher game content as gameplay ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo boasts eye-catching stages and a killer music score. The simple art with shifting abstract forms evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although hard to think of similar titles where you play as a dung character, interactive entertainment have long featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as fertilizer. And of course, this theme appears extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. This trial version is accessible at present on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on computers this November.
