Bondi Discloses Probe into President's Opponents and Epstein Links

On Friday, the Attorney General designated Jay Clayton to oversee an investigation into opponents of Donald Trump and their connections with Jeffrey Epstein. This action came just after Trump ordered her to launch the investigation.

During an announcement, the Attorney General commended Clayton as “among the nation’s top prosecutors”. The official remarked, “The department will handle this matter promptly and thoroughly to provide clarity for citizens.”

This action seems to diverge from a July memo from federal authorities which indicated that the Epstein files did not warrant additional investigations. As per the document, investigators “did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties”

Trump Demands Scrutiny of Democrats in the Epstein Case

The announcement comes as increasing pressure from Trump on congressional Republicans to resist the full release of Epstein-related documents before an upcoming House vote next week. Many Republicans are expected to support the release.

Newly public emails from Jeffrey Epstein have highlighted Trump’s previous connections with the sex trafficker, including information that his knowledge of Epstein’s behavior exceeded prior admissions.

On Friday, Trump announced he would ask the Department of Justice to investigate connections between Epstein and Democratic figures, specifically naming Bill Clinton, Larry Summers and Reid Hoffman. Paradoxically, he also described the “Epstein situation” as a “scam”.
